Adsense Screws Up, Changes Click Area
I’m sure many of you have heard about or even received an email from your Google rep regarding the new changes that will be coming for all ads. The changes have to do with where a click gets registered on the ad. Before this change you could click anywhere on the ad and it would register a click. Now they have changed it where you have to click the URL or the ad heading for it to register.
Blogoscope has a great image showing how the changes will look. It makes me sick to my stomach to see how drastic it is going to be.

What I want to know is if you click on the description…. how the hell are you not trying to click on the ad? It makes absolutely no sense. I’ll give Google the white space just for arguments sake but not the description. It really does blow my mind how Google can use the same click region since for years and years and then all of a sudden make such a drastic change citing accidental clicks. How does Google determine that there were enough accidental clicks on the description area to warrant that being removed from the click region? There can’t be a way.
This is just another move by Google that favors the advertisers. They probably had a few huge network refuse to use Adwords due to the click region being as big as it was and that forced them to make the change. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit. If Google is out to make a profit I’m not buying that this is going to help them any at all.

Agreed – seems very unfair that the description is linked but not credited. If they want to only credit clicks for the title and URL, then those should be the only areas clickable. Having the description linked but not credited seems like stealing free clicks.

I emailed google my complaints. I’m waiting to hear feedback.
From my accounts yesterday, and 3rd party trackers, i was jipped 380 clicks on my blog alone.
IF this isn’t changed back or fixed so the area isn’t click able at all if it doesn’t count, I’m dropping adsense altogether.
I will respond with any response i get from them.
